I’ve been avoiding mangos because I’m never sure how to cut them. (Everyone told me they felt the same about pomegranates until I showed them how to de-seed it in less than a minute!)
Well, don’t fear the mango anymore. It’s actually quite simple to cut! My friend Sunee taught me how. (Yes, the friend I thought was crazy for growing green onions in water!)
Here it is:
How to cut a mango in 3 easy steps:
1. Slice off each side with the pit chillin in the middle (The pit is long and flatish. Give it about an inch.)
You should now have 3 pieces: 2 sides and the center piece with the pit
2. Slice/score the mango into long slices or little chunks. DON’T push the knife all the way through the peel though.
3. Scoop out the slices with a spoon. ENJOY!
Let’s review. Cut off each side, slice mango without puncturing the peel, and scoop out mango.
NOTE: Yes, yes, there will be some mango left around the seed. If you want every inch of mango, you can cut around the pit, and then cut off the peel. Simple!
