1. on tv!

    November 27, 2012 by Lauren

Guys, I've been a terrible blogger. It's been almost 3 weeks since we've written. Life in these parts has been so hectic that I haven't had any time! I actually even have two amazing DIY posts all photo'ed... but I just need to sit down and write them. So... awesome posts coming your way SOON! I promise! One this Thursday, ok? And we have the COOLEST giveaway coming your way too!

We had a booth at Renegade Craft Fair this weekend and it was crazy awesome. We told hundreds and hundreds of people about the shop and what we do with artists. And we sold 113 (!!!!!) soy candles at the fair! Thanks to everyone who came out and said hi. (photobooth pictures from Renegade below!)

Also last week – I (Lauren) was interviewed on tv! Which is hilarious, because we don’t even own a tv. Ha. But it was great.

I chatted with the news guy and Rebekka Adams (of the Austin Independent Business Alliance) about shopping at local stores for the holidays instead of the big chain stores.

you can watch my (awkward) interview here if you’re so inclined.

So with Renegade, and being on the news, and of course getting the shop ready for the holidays, you can see why it’s been hectic around here! but i’m making time for blogging more this week. ok? ok.

  3. DIY ground cinnamon

    November 1, 2012 by Lauren

Last night we were at some friends' house and Josiah smelled a cinnamon stick. Terribly boring story, right?
And then he had a brilliant idea. Instead of BUYING ground cinnamon, why not make your own??!

Thus… the tutorial…. DIY ground cinnamon

It’s the easiest thing ever. Seriously. Just put cinnamon sticks on your coffee grinder for one-ish minute… and you’ll get a lovely powder of cinnamon. Do it longer if you want even tinier particles!

Why not just buy pre-ground cinnamon? You can. We’re just going back to the basics with cinnamon bark and grinding it up.  And it’s just kinda awesome to make it yourself. And really really cheap. We bought a bajillion cinnamon sticks for less than $2. Plus, there’s no added preservatives in homemade ground cinnamon. A lot of those containers add some preservatives to prevent from caking/clumping… yuck. If this clumps, just stick it back in the coffee grinder.

We realized we use our coffee grinder for so many other uses – diy powdered sugar, diy garlic powder, homemade onion flakes…… it’s the “poor-man’s food processor” since we don’t have one, or the “modern mortar-and-pestle”, since we don’t have one of those either. Ha!

Ok go make your own ground cinnamon! And then go make some french toast, or pumpkin pie, or oatmeal, or cinnamon rolls, or do the cinnamon challenge if you’re a crazy person.

  4. candles in the online shop!

    October 30, 2012 by Lauren

Now that the weather is cooler, we can ship the candles - - so they are in our online shop! We had to worry about the soy melting when it was hot. Josiah and I make each and every candle in our home… and it stanks like that scent for days. Ha! Just kidding, we love it, and the “stank” is actually really great.

Buy all the candles you want and they’ll ship for a flat $6, no matter how many you buy.

Here’s a few shop favorites: (because they are hilarious AND smell good!)

monkey farts. (everyone’s reaction: “oh that actually smells really good!” were you expecting us to make a bad smelling candle……)

    butter beer. yum. wizardy.

unicorn puke. (quote that someone actually said to me this weekend: ”I don’t know why anyone would make anything called unicorn puke” because we are immature and it’s funny to us.)

butt naked. (another weekend quote: ”Butt naked, I’m not even going to smell that”)

Please go check out the other silly AND normal candle scents! When you buy a candle, you help us buy a cupcake. Or kitty food. Or zucchini. Ya know, life’s necessities.
